Vintage beauty salon Paradise Beauty Salon in Belens, South Australia, has a new name.
It has been renamed Ramona’s Beauty Salon.
Owner Marlena Ramona has changed the name because she felt people needed to know about her past.
“The name change was for people to know my past and where I came from and where my journey has been,” she said.
“People have come from all over the country, they know my story and they know I’m proud of who I am.”
Paradise is a small town of just over 10,000 people and is just south of the Great Northern Highway.
“It’s a small, quiet town and I’ve had a lot of positive feedback from people about it,” Ramona said.
Ramona started working at the beauty salon in 1998, and she says it’s been a positive experience.
“My daughter is going to university here in Australia and it’s just such a lovely place, so I thought why not make it my career and just take advantage of that,” Ramones said.
Marlena says she’s also trying to inspire other women.
“I think it’s very important to look at the positive side of it, I think the positive part of my life is my daughter,” Ramonda said.
She says she is trying to do something positive for her community.
“A lot of people have been coming in here with their daughters, wanting to work here,” Ramons daughter, Chloe, said.
“It’s really cool to see that so many people are going through the same thing that I’m going through.”
Ms Ramona says the name change has also made her feel more comfortable.
“You can’t look back too far, you can only look forward,” Ramonia said.
A change of name and address is not unusual for a small community like this, but Ramona believes the name and change will also give the community a boost.
“This is just a really positive thing to do,” Ramonas daughter said.
